The ancient Pieve di San Bartolomeo has a millennial and troubled history. Built on the remains of a Roman villa and a Lombard settlement, the earliest written records date back to 1058. Multiple construction phases occurred until the year 1500. Following the construction of the new parish church and cemetery, the Pieve fell into abandonment. In recent years a significant restoration project has started.
Bornato is known for its castle, also known as Villa Orlando. The area hosts important palaces such as Villa Bornati - Secco d’Aragona and Villa Monte Rossa. In addition to the castle and villas, Bornato boasts several historic churches: the parish church of San Bartolomeo apostle, the ruins of the ancient Pieve di San Bartolomeo and the small church of Sant’Antonio.
