Piazza Garibaldi is the main square of Iseo, once called “Piazza del Mercato” (Market Square). The sculpture of the general is worth noting because it is the first non-equestrian statue in the world dedicated to Giuseppe Garibaldi. It was sculpted by Pietro Boldini and inaugurated in 1883.
Iseo, the main tourist centre on the lake, is an ancient medieval village that preserves ancient alleys, tower houses and shops. Don’t miss: Piazza Garibaldi, the Oldofredi castle, the Pieve di Sant’Andrea, which houses a ‘San Michele Arcangelo’ by Hayez, the church of San Silvestro with the Danza Macabra and the church of the Madonna della Neve.
